Considerations for Use & Design of Magnesium Alloys

Thursday (07.11.2019)
09:15 - 09:35
Part of:

Magnesium alloys have shown significant promise for weight reduction of components, due to its low density. However, in addition to its low density magnesium alloys exhibit material characteristics that can provide challenges to the manufacturability and application of these alloys. Unless the challenges to the processing and use of magnesium alloys within products are understood and addressed, the extent of the use of magnesium within industrial applications will be limited. This work will detail some of these challenges and how advances within alloy design can provide opportunities for the expanded use of this material in a wide range of applications.
