EBSD-Analysis of cube grains throughout the industrial production of Al-Mg-Si plates and sheets
Tuesday (05.11.2019) 17:35 - 17:55 Part of:The crystallographic cube component plays a prominent role in Al-Mg-Si alloys. Due to their huge recrystallization advantage cube grains often dominate the texture of rolled products. Our contribution provides an experimental investigation of cube grains throughout the production process of Al-Mg-Si plates and sheets. Based on large-scale electron back-scatter diffraction (EBSD) measurements, we assess the size, area fraction and morphology of cube grains. Special emphasis is put on the following aspects: (i) stability of cube grains during hot rolling (ii) grain fragmentation during cold rolling (iii) influence of size and number density of Mg2Si-precipitates. These mechanisms are known from literature, however few results from commercial alloys and industrial process conditions exist. Our findings underline the technological importance of the hot rolling process for texture optimization.
